Chajul, Guatemala. This is a huipil from Chajul in the Ixil Triangle which was an area gravely affected by the Guatemalan Civil War. Yet this huipil is a vibrant red with bright colored horses with small horses on the backs of the larger horses. This is typical of the Chajul huipiles to have the whimsical animals woven into the design. The piece is made from 2 back-strap woven panels joined together. Excellent shape. 36" wide x 24" long on each side. Front and back are shown in the pictures. Also, the picture at the heading of the "Huipiles" page was taken in Chajul, so you can see the style of huipil that is traditional there.
