Pillows

Pillow Covers made from antique textiles

These fabulous pillows are made by a women's cooperative from their old huipiles or traditional back-strap woven blouses. And the backs (also pictured) are made from the cortes or traditional foot-loomed skirt material. There are traditional dress from many different villages represented here. The hole in the middle of the pillows is where the head opening was. Each textile tells a story with it's cosmic geometric designs or animals, birds, and corn plants and each is rich in cultural allegory. Isn't our own life enriched by the beautiful work of these talented women?
