Almolonga Cinta

Almolonga Cinta

$ 121.00

136" (over 11.3') long x 1" wide

This cinta or hair ribbon was woven on a back-strap loom in the village of Almolonga in the department of Quetzaltenango where the Mayan dialect of K'iche' is spoken.   The wearing, and thus the weaving, of these cintas, is becoming much more rare as they are mostly worn by older women. This cinta includes geometric designs, people, and animals.  The intricate design woven part of the cinta is 30" on each side (60" total) and the rest is a hand-woven vibrant red.  Tassels, fringe and cinta are in remarkably great condition.
