San Mateo Ixtatan

SAN MATEO IXTATAN, Guatemala. San Mateo is in the western highlands of Guatemala and the Chuj-Maya dialect is spoken there.  This particular huipil is a rare ceremonial piece approximately 40 to 50 years old.  This is a musuem quality piece.  Because of the age there are some loose threads and on one side there are a few small spots on the white base cloth (visible in the picture).  This is a large piece - 48" across and 32" long on each side from the shoulder.
