Cortes from Colotenango are woven on a backstrap loom, so 2 narrower lengths are put together to get the length needed for the skirt. The elaborate pattern is made with supplementary or extra weft threads. These colored threads are used to weave in the pattern on the fabric by hand with each throw of the shuttle. This is a very complex and laborious technique. The fabric is quite heavy. Condition is good except for some abrasion on one row of flowers and along the bottom edge of the corte. 36”wide X 75” long. Cortes with this type of elaborate weave are not seen nearly as often as cortes woven on a floor loom.
