Chichicastenango corte #2

Chichicastenango corte #2

$ 95.00

This beautiful corte from Chichicastenango has rows of weft ikat as well as rows of pattern weave. 27” W X 94” L. The two narrower strips of fabric that form the skirt are joined by a wide randa and an embroidered randa joins the two ends of the fabric to form a tube. The randa is embroidered in long stitches that form colored stripes and several rows of machine stitching run along the randa to secure those long stitches. This is a traditional method of sewing a randa that was documented at least 15 years ago. The blue is indigo-dyed. The back side of the fabric is faded from wearing the garment inside-out to protect it. This is shown in the last slide. Condition is very good, with just a few tiny pulls.
